The Gurkha Grill recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and has been given a face lift, with new decor and a menu to match. How it all began, the name Gurkha Grill came from a French restaurant in Kathmandu Nepal, which was part of a five star hotel complex. In 1979 Raj and Neil started working for the Gurkha Grill French restaurant in Nepal, which was probably one of the best restaurants in Nepal at the time. Then in 1982 Raj and Neil were recruited by Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dubai UAE another 5 star hotel, where they gained their International experience and culinary expertise. By this time Raj and Neil were both well experienced, and well qualified in the hospitality industry and Hotel management. In 1985 Neil came to the UK with an idea of becoming a restauranter and Raj followed the year later to pursue the same dream. After some time in the south of England and other parts of the UK, they settled in the Manchester and the North West. During this time they started to look for a suitable location to start their restaurant business and after some time understanding how Manchester worked they decided on Didsbury. The reason for Didsbury and not the traditional curry mile was quite simple! Didsbury is an up-market area and very trendy, with local Celebes, sport stars, musicians and media people, this made it the right choice. The Gurkha Grill was established in 1996 and sent a shiver down Burton Road as the Gurkha Grill soon got a reputation for culinary excellence, with a range and variety of dishes not seen before. The Gurkha Grill soon became a name on everyone's lips for its food excellence and friendly service to its customers, and also catering for the individual who has special tastes. |
The Gurkha Grill has quite varied range of dishes, bordering on the Nepalese to the more traditional Indian dishes with a Nepalese twist to give the dish the Gurkha Grill taste. The menus are constantly changing because the Gurkha Grill believes in creating it's own special taste, which the Gurkha Grill is renowned for and to keep the menus looking fresh with new culinary ideas. The Gurkha Grill has been given a transformation into a modern looking restaurant to fit in with trendy West Didsbury; it has got a modern minimalist look with neutral colours and some great traditional Nepalese features.
